A diverse assemblage of Late Eocene woods from Oregon, western USA

چکیده
Well-preserved silicified woods from a site near the town of Post, Oregon, western USA, provide insights into late Eocene vegetation and climate ca. 36 million years data for comparing with both older younger wood floras regionally globally. The composition this flora, taken consideration along taxa identified fruits seeds same locality, provides more complete picture former vegetation. We recognize belonging to families Anacardiaceae (Pistacia terrazasae sp. nov.), Cannabaceae (Celtis popsii Cercidiphyllaceae (Cercidiphyllum cf. alalongum R.A.Scott et E.A.Wheeler), Fagaceae (Fagus dodgeii nov., Lithocarpoxylon ashwillii sp., Quercus sp.), Hamamelidaceae (Hamamelidoxylon crystalliferum H. suzukii E.A.Wheeler T.A.Dillhoff), Juglandaceae (Pterocaryoxylon Malvaceae (Wataria kvacekii n. Platanaceae (Platanoxylon haydenii (Felix) Süss Müll.-Stoll, Platanus Sapindaceae (Acer, 2 spp.), Trochodendraceae (Trochodendron beckii (Hergert H.K.Phinney) E.A.Wheeler). This assemblage, which we refer as Post Hammer flora (UF 279), is comparable in age nearby Teater Road known mainly fossil leaf impressions. Comparing functional traits Clarno Nut Beds attests changing region, including an increase seasonality.

The Phytophthora species assemblage and diversity in riparian alder ecosystems of western Oregon, USA.
Phytophthora species were systematically sampled, isolated, identified and compared for presence in streams, soil and roots of alder (Alnus species) dominated riparian ecosystems in western Oregon. We describe the species assemblage and evaluate Phytophthora diversity associated with alder. We recovered 1250 isolates of 20 Phytophthora species. Only three species were recovered from all substra...
متن کاملLate Quaternary climatic controls on erosion rates and geomorphic processes in western Oregon, USA
Climate regulation of erosion in unglaciated landscapes remains difficult to decipher. While climate may disrupt process feedbacks that would otherwise steer landscapes toward steady erosion, sediment transport processes tend to erase past climate landforms and thus bias landscape evolution interpretations. Here, we couple a 50 k.y. paleoenvironmental record with 24 10Be-derived paleo-erosion r...

The Moncure microvertebrate locality in the Cumnock Formation, Sanford sub-basin, North Carolina, dramatically increases the known Late Triassic age vertebrate assemblage from the Deep River Basin. The ,50,000 recovered microvertebrate fossils include osteichthyans, amphibians, and numerous lepidosauromorph, archosauriform, and synapsid amniotes. Actinopterygian fossils consist of thousands of ...
متن کاملSpondyloarthropathy in cervical vertebrae of late prehistoric black bear from northwestern Oregon, USA
Spondyloarthropathy has been reported among modern individuals of several species of ursid. Prehistoric cervical vertebra of black bear (Ursus americanus) recovered from an archaeological site in northwestern Oregon are fused and distorted, indicating spondyloarthropathy in this species has some time depth. Inventory of this disease among paleozoological remains may reveal unknown details of di...
